Lyric 004: Better Together

by joanabagano

“Our dreams, and they are made out of real things,
Like a shoebox of photographs,
With sepia tone loving,
Love is the answer
At least for most of the questions in my heart ,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it’s so hard?”

Jack Johnson is one of the artists I listen to when I just want to have a breather and relax. This song is one of my favorites from the album In Between Dreams.

I highlighted the part above because I agree with it on two hats: first, as a Christian and second as a human being.

As a Christian there really is no better answer to every question thrown at us than letting people experience what true love is.  There are no direct answers and we cannot know all there is to know about who God is. The beauty of this is that once someone encounters God beyond intellect, there is no going back. Every answer man tried to come up with will pale in comparison to the answer of knowing God.

1 John 4:8 says, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

As human beings, an urge was put inside us. This urge to feel accepted and loved by someone or someones came with the urge to know Someone higher and loftier. The desires come simultaneously and when one desire is satisfied, the other has to be fulfilled as well. When the complement is not there, a sense of being devoid hovers upon the person until he reaches the point of asking “Is there really more?” or “Am I consigned to this forever?”

When a person finally finds God and rejoices that all his longing has been fulfilled, complete as he may feel, the story does not end there yet. Walking with God is not a solitary endeavor because He is meant to be enjoyed with others. When a person finds someone to love and when his love is returned, complete as he may feel, the story is far from over, too. All the shortcomings of man cannot cover up the void inside and so we go back to Him. At that moment, when we finally know that He has filled all gaps and holes and devoured every nook and cranny in our heart, that moment tells us it’s time to give a piece of Him to others who still have the void. The cycle is invincible and preferably begins with finding God first before anything.

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33
