I am a silent admirer of you and your blog. Hope you keep writing and inspiring 🙂
I just stumbled onto your blog and an article you wrote in 2012 entitled Waiting about
Manong Edwin, headwaiter at Via Mare in Diliman. I was looking for pics of the restaurant as well as pics of the dishes so I could include them when I posted pics of a small gathering there.
I just had lunch there today with my auntie (sister of my late dad), my son and my cousins.
Today is the first death anniversary of my dad. To remember him, we attended the 12 noon mass at the U.P. Chapel and had lunch in Via Mare, one of his favorite eating places. We ordered his favorite dishes and enjoyed them on his behalf (he he, actually, we loved Via Mare dishes too) and reminisced the happy times with him.
I did not meet nor did I know Manong Edwin and also don’t know whether he was still there in Via Mare and whether my dad even knew him. I wasn’t able to ask my auntie, who usually was my dad’s eating date during the last few years, since I only read your blog this afternoon. Knowing my dad and my auntie, there’s a big chance that they knew Manong Edwin. But whether or not they knew him, I feel that what you wanted to do for him was a great idea and my dad would have wanted to help you with your ‘project’ for Manong Edwin’s birthday.
Were you able to do something for Manong Edwin’s birthday? Oct 7 is coming and he will be 42 now, and we could still do something if you were not able to do so two years ago. Did you or were you thinking of bringing his whole family and maybe a few friends to celebrate his birthday with a dinner in Via Mare?
Would love to hear from you.
